SOURCE: SPIROMICS Study of Early COPD Progression is looking for people who have never smoked cigarettes, people who are current cigarette smokers, and people who are former cigarette smokers between 30 and 55 years old to participate in a research study on early signs of lung disease. Most studies of lung disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) involve older people. This 5-year study at 14 sites across the U.S. will help us better understand COPD in younger people. You do not need a COPD diagnosis to join.

We know that some younger cigarette smokers are diagnosed with COPD while others may smoke for years without developing COPD. This study will shed light on what contributes to such different outcomes and will help me explain to my patients whether they are at risk for COPD.
